National Blood Donor Month

National Blood Donor Month is celebrated in the United States in January each year since 1970. January is a time that sees significantly less blood donations due to the holidays, people’s busy schedules, seasonal illness and inclement winter weather. This makes January one of the most difficult times to collect enough donations to meet needs. This is what led President Nixon to declare January as National Blood Donor Month on December 31, 1969.

The American Red Cross says that nearly 38% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood yet only around 10% actually donate. One pint of blood can save up tp three lives! Some other benefits include:

  • Free blood tests – donated blood is tested and donor can asked to be informed if any irregularities are found.
  • Satisfaction of saving human lives
  • Calorie burn – Blood donation process burns 650 calories – about the same as an average spin class!
  • Reduced risk of heart disease – helps eliminate excess buildup of iron in the blood
  • Reduced risk of cancer – also due to reduction of excess iron buildup in the blood

Imagine yourself waking up, coming down the stairs to make your morning brew. You’re yawning, not paying particular attention to your surroundings until, “Splash!”

You’re suddenly ankle deep in a large puddle of water.

But is it just a puddle?

No, you’re awake now and you realize this “puddle” is covering the entire first floor of your home. Where did this all come from? What do you do? Who do you call? The Fire Department? The Police?

You have so many questions with exceptionally little time. Once water has entered your home, extraction becomes an essential, time-sensitive matter.

SERVPRO of Upper Bucks strictly abides to meeting or exceeding the “1,4,8” rule. Within one hour of receiving a new loss, the client will be contacted by one of our compliance staff to schedule a time for our crew chief to come scope the affected areas. Within four hours of scheduling, our highly-trained crew will arrive on-site to begin work. After eight hours, all current job information will be processed, uploaded and relayed to client.

It is with the, “1, 4, 8” rule that SERVPRO of Upper Bucks effectively performs time-management skills. The nature of our business is to help clients get through some of the toughest times they may face. Many of them have just lost their personal belongings or content, or a piece of their being that is otherwise irreplaceable. The SERVPRO of Upper Bucks, SERVPRO of Pennypack/Bustleton & SERVPRO of Germantown 76ers v.s. The Golden State Warriors Sweepstakes (\"Sweepstakes\") begins on December 28th 2019 at 12:00 p.m. and ends on February 21st 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (the \"Promotion Period\").

Board-Up Services!

After an emergency involving one's own property, whether it be a bad storm, fire or water damage, many properties need to be boarded up. Board ups are done to prevent the properties from incurring any further damage before the remediation process can begin. Board ups are one thing that should be left to the professionals. Most people are experiencing emotional trauma after an emergency involving their own property. Why SERVPRO An Inside Look in to Our Sponsorships Some of our team members helping serve food during the ABC Eastern Clay Shoot Event.

Our owners, Sean McCabe and Mike McGrory, are the first people to lend a hand and help sponsor groups in our community. Although most sponsorships consist of money or a check, they believe there is a greater value to gain out of these experiences. That is why in place of a check, they supply lunch, volunteers, and/ or supplies. Whether they are providing lunch during an event in the community or at one of the local chambers of commerce or association groups, they barbecue and cook everything from scratch! Some of the office staff will then come and help serve the food and run the event. This type of sponsorship leaves lasting impressions on people in a way that goes way beyond a monetary value. We build connections with people in our community while supplying them with the best lunch they have ever had! We aren’t just saying that either, everyone always raves about Sean and Mike’s cooking. We find great joy in being able to give back to our community and to the groups we are apart of.

Hydrating Heroes lll

This year SERVPRO of Upper Bucks, along with other local SERVPRO Franchises, are hosting their 3rd annual Hydrating Heroes event at the Wells Fargo Center! This event celebrates the commitment of all of our First Responders and Community Heroes. What started out as a smaller event has grown tremendously over the past three years. So much that last year the event was moved to Lot C at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Hydrating Heroes is a tailgate event where breakfast is served, prizes are raffled away, and a multitude of cases of water are given away to the First Responder Community. Even though Hydrating Heroes is held in December of each year, we have heated tents to keep everyone warm!

Miller Keystones will also be back for a 3rd year as well hosting a blood drive on site.  This event is open to all First Responders and blood donors.

Quakertown Borough Announces Univest Performance Center

The Borough of Quakertown recently announced that Univest Bank and Trust Co. will serve as the official sponsor of the amphitheater at the Park at Fourth, which will now be known as the Univest Performance Center. Starting in June, the Sounds of Summer Concert Series at the Univest Performance Center will feature six concerts from world-class entertainers on select Thursdays throughout the summer.

The 2018 concert line-up consists of the following acts:

June 14:           Tommy James & the Shondells

June 28:           The Marshall Tucker Band

July 12:             The Charlie Daniels Band

July 26:             Journey Former Lead Vocalist Steve Augeri

August 16:        Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone

August 23:        The Little River Band

Updating and utilizing the amphitheater at the Park at Fourth is a key component to the Borough’s overall revitalization plan, which has already helped stimulate the local economy by attracting new businesses and developers.

“Quakertown Borough Council and Administration are grateful to the generosity Univest Bank and Trust Co. is demonstrating with their involvement in sponsoring the new amphitheater in our Park at Fourth. Last year, the Sounds of Summer Concert Series was introduced and immediately attracted thousands of concert goers for its three performances. This year, with Univest’s support, the series has grown, and the Borough is eager to capitalize on this underused property. The Borough is confident that the Univest Performance Center will further help promote tourism, drive awareness of downtown businesses, encourage a local sense of community, and further establish Quakertown as a destination point.

First Responder Support Month!

Why SERVPRO First Responder Support Month! Our Marketing Manager and Marketing Assistant at the shooting range with their police academy program!

Here at SERVPRO of Upper Bucks, we thrive on the support of our First Responders! 

May is First Responder Support Month, so we want to continue to remind our local fire departments, EMS Departments, and police officers that we appreciate and support them! They put so much on the line for our community, and we want to give back. 

What are ways SERVPRO supports our First Responders?

First, we DONATE DONATE DONATE! Whether it is resources or time we make an effort all year long to donate to our First Responders. We do this through the donation of cases of water. Most fire departments are volunteer ran, so donating something as simple as water can go a long way for these organizations. We donate water all year round, and even host an event called "Hydrating Heroes" at the end of year, to donate these cases of water in bulk to all of the fire departments in the Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. All money is raised to purchase these cases through our SERVPRO Golf Outing Classic in September. 

SERVPRO of Upper Bucks also donates our time to first responders. This means we volunteer at various events our First Responders host such as fire department breakfasts, festivals, and more! We want to help in any way we can, so simply volunteering can go a long way. 

We also have been sending our staff to the Citizen's Police Academy with Quakertown Borough Police Department the past couple years. What does this mean? Our staff go to these classes, and learn about the police department, how they operate, and develop more appreciation for them and what they do. This is another way to support your police, and engaging in these classes learning about them. Our staff just complete the classes this week, and they had a wonderful time!

How can you support our First Responders?

There are plenty of ways. You can do something as simple as saying hello and thanking them. If you see a police officer on the street, go up to them and thank them. They will appreciate that!

To go even further, drop them off a basket, or card, or an other goodies! On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in January, bring them coffee in the morning before they start their day! Something as small as that can make someone's day. 

Want to go even further? VOLUNTEER! The police departments need Fire Police, the fire departments need volunteer fire fighters, and so much more opportunities! 

Remember, this month is First Responder Appreciation Month, National Police Week is May 16th to May 19th, and National EMS Week is May 20th to May 26th!

SERVPRO is a huge supporter for First Responders, and continue to be as involved as possible through donation, volunteer work, and involvement in various organizations such as the Pennsylvania Fire & Emergency Services Institute (PFESI).

What's a day at SERVPRO of Upper Bucks like?

Well...let's find out! A video touring our facility is posted in our video section as well! Here at our office, we are like a little community. The beauty of working for a company such as SERVPRO, we get the small office environment.

We have our technicians and crew chiefs, who are out doing what we do best--RESTORATION!! They come in every morning and prepare for the day, and then they're out working on jobs! They are essential to our company, but this is not to say our office staff is not important. We all work together to make a great business! We are like a machine, all parts are important and essential to success.

Now, we have our office staff, and they work just as hard to help make our business a success! Watch the video to see what our office staff is doing! 

Hey, maybe in the next post, you'll get to meet an office member! You'll also get to meet a crew member...I know the anticipation is probably driving you nuts! Not to worry, that will come soon. This is simply the beginning of many introductions.

As I mentioned the crew comes in every morning where they'll learn where they will work for the day. From there, they're off! Upcoming posts will provide insight on what typically happens on a water job or a fire job.

December 9th, 2016 turned out to be an exceptionally successful and unique day in the SERVPRO world. 

Early in the morning on this day, owners and staff from SERVPROs of the Greater Philadelphia region teamed up to accept a delivery of 1,800 cases of SERVPRO-branded water at the SERVPRO of Upper Bucks' warehouse.

The 1,800 cases were intended for donation and distribution. 25-50 cases were allocated to surrounding first responder organizations. First Responders have a high demand for water for use on their apparatus, at their facility, or while responding to an emergency situation. 

The 1,800 cases of water arrived promptly at 9 a.m. via tractor trailer and SERVPRO staff were at the ready to unload all 25 pallets and temporarily place them in the warehouse.

After all 25 pallets were safely secured, the distribution began. SERVPRO trucks and vans, in addition to the vehicles of the several first responder organizations who attended that morning to personally accept their donations, filled the two loading docks and front lawn continuously until just remnants of the empty pallets were left. From there, the cases were delivered to almost 100 previously-contacted first responders in the surrounding areas.

One of the attendees that morning later thanked us for the event stating, "I cannot tell you how grateful we are for your organization's generosity!" It's comments like these that make community involvement truly fulfilling.

We hope to continue the spirit of Hydrating Heroes I by hosting another sometime during the warmer weather months. Stay tuned and a sincere thank-you to those who helped make the first one such a success!

Why SERVPRO Community First Growing Within Our Community

Meeting Our Neighbors

SERVPRO of Upper Bucks has spent almost 20 years in business in their local community. 20 years is a long time to spend within a community, yet we've realized we've neglected the importance of actually taking the time to meet our neighbors and local businesses.

We've recently begun to refocus our attention on what matters most, our community.

First Responders

Who better to meet than those who put their lives on the line for our protection? SERVPRO of Upper Bucks supports their first responders through participation and support of their events such as; 5K runs/walks, Police Chiefs' meetings and fire department open houses. We also donate cases of water to our first responders for use during their emergency situations.

Community Events

There is no community event (or building emergency) too big or too small for SERVPRO of Upper Bucks. We are constantly welcoming the opportunity to sponsor and participate in local events. Recently, we have provided our support through volunteerism and donations at several fall festivals, inaugural concerts, Fire Department open-houses and breakfasts, Chamber of Commerce events as well as career-oriented school-sponsored programs.

We are hoping to continue to grow in our community by meeting all of our neighbors at community events and much more! We welcome the opportunity to meet with community members, business leaders, Chamber(s) of Commerce members, Police, Firemen or any one of our neighbors wishing to stop by and learn more about our business!

We Support Our Police

Why SERVPRO We Support Our Police PA Police

The Pennsylvania FOP, Fraternal Order of Police, is a non-profit organization that represents Police Officers from all across Pennsylvania. Their primary focus is to assist retired officers, provide assistance to the families of those who have fallen in the line of duty and assist disabled or injured law enforcement members.

Early this week on August 8th and 9th, SERVPRO of Upper Bucks was in attendance at the PA FOP State Lodge Convention. The convention had the goal of bringing together all the different members of FOP and informing them of the support PA FOP has provided and what it plans to do.

While there, SERVPRO of Upper Bucks met numerous law enforcement officials and were able to personally connect with them and thank them for all of their service.

In addition, on behalf of SERVPRO, a Kegerator was donated for raffle and raised over $150 to donate to the FOP. Everyone in attendance was exceptionally grateful of our generosity.
